Many people in America are very down on trade commissions and they are upset with things like NAFTA and how that has hurt American jobs. Many laid-off workers will say that NAFTA sent all the jobs to Mexico and then Mexico sent them all the China and it did not do the United States or Mexico any good. In fact many regions in the United States and many small towns are completely boarded up and economically devastated.

Although work is being done now to help the economic vitality of these areas rebound it is obvious that the issues are very serious. Years of blood, sweat and tears were wiped out with a single stroke of a pen and many family fortunes were lost in real estate and businesses. This of course is completely unfortunate and it is hard for these people to see the upside of free trade agreements.

Yes in fact I hear this complaint and fully understand it. However in the long run, free trade makes sense and the most efficient places to make things means lower cost to the rest of the world who are purchasers of such items and that would include all of the people in the United States of America who are in the middle class.

Unfortunately what happens all too often is that trade commissions fail to address the reality of a changing world and industries and therefore without the positive reinforcement of public relations to explain to people how world economics actually works there is lots of animosity against the trade commissions, the government and the politicians who allow it to come to be.

This is why all trade commissions must have a strong line of communications with all media and use that to promote education of how economics works to the common man. Public relations for trade commissions are almost as important as the trade agreements themselves. Please consider all this in 2009.
